Species: Brown trout
My fishing partner (MaseFace Killa) and I left work early to hit the river because it seemed like the right thing to do. By 3:00pm we were leaving an undisclosed Montana TownPump with boat in-tow and fresh rations of IPA on ice. After a short drive we launched and I ran the shuttle by hitchhiking. Special thanks to Curt and Gus for giving me a ride.
I took the front of the boat for the first leg. I fished 4 or 5 different streamers hard and missed a couple nice fish. After an hour or so we switched and Mase took the bow.
The gods smiled on us and we had a lovely shower of rain in the sunshine. A Southerner might say, "Devil's beatin' his wife again." The angle of the sun combined with the rain shower and the dark storm-cloud backdrop produced a vivid double rainbow. The gods smiled on us and we had a lovely shower of rain in the sunshine. A Southerner might say, "Devil's beatin' his wife again." The angle of the sun combined with the rain shower and the dark storm-cloud backdrop produced a vivid double rainbow. All the way across the sky.
As we floated-on, fittingly listening to Dark Side of the Moon, the colorful rainbow stayed clearly in our view and then seemed to show us exactly where the pot of gold was hidden. There, at the end of the rainbow, was a small overhanging tree on the bank of the river. The fish gods were trying to tell us that there was obviously a hungry Brown living near that tree.
Sure enough, Mase caught two nice browns under that tree while the song "Money" played. They ate a tan zonker/deer-hair sculpin looking thing. One of them taped 19" and put up an impressive fight. We agreed he was a young male who will grow up to be a very big fish someday.
As the day ended we missed a few more nice fish and headed back to town satisfied.
