We left from Buenos aires at about 5:00am in the morning travelling up towards Arroyo Seco near the city of Rosario to fish with an extremely experienced dorado guide called Dario Arrieta in his home waters with good friend and fisherman Luis San Miguel. We arrived around 8:00am and quickly prepared everything venturing out into the thick fog that coated the Parana river. We took a short run down stream to one of Dario's favorite spots to begin fishing. We kept a reasonable distance from the bank casting as tight to the bank as possible stripping back to the boat. This was to cover the 2 drop offs situated in this section of the river. Putting many casts into the bank we retrieved slightly slower than usual dorado fishing due to the cold water which makes them less active. We used 8-9 weight rods with floating lines and large black deceivers to try and entice a take. During the morning we had many bites for this time of year. Luis landed one within an hour of fishing with a fantastic take erupting out on the surface to eat the fly. We both had more takes and just before lunch I hooked into 2 fish consecutively in the same place with really nice takes. However lost them both with after a short fight although had enough time to see some nice acrobatics. We had the opportunity to fish a multitude of different structures and situations from log jams to steep wall and small channels to over hanging trees. All made for some very interesting angling opportunities. After lunch during the afternoon the fog cleared and the sun came out. However we saw less activity in the afternoon than the morning with some bites but not as many. We saw in total between us around 20 bites. However all in all we had a fantastic day with great company, fishing and food.
