Type of Water: Freshwater
Species: Cutthroat
Fishing at the Desert Lake continues to improve from shore as the water temps finally are in the 50's. This weekends cold front should really get the fishing going. Right now, some days are good and some days are very slow but the fishing will really take off over the next few weeks as the fish move in close to shore in search of food. Stripping black wooly buggers and popcorn beetles on a fast sinking shooting head is working well and a tried and true Pyramid Lake go to set up. Large midges, balanced leeches and balanced minnows under an indicator are also producing decent results if you happen to be at the right beach at the right time. Fish heavy tippets(0x at least) on 6# (indicator) and 8#(stripping) rods for the extra large cutthroat found in this high desert gem.
