Last week EMB Anglers landed a total of 117 sea-trout, 26 fish over 15 pounds, and 10 of these were over 20 pounds. The average weight was 9.2 pounds.
Fishing was a bit slow last week. The river is still in excellent condition; Low and clear water. We had a few showers but not any heavy rain, and the river did not rise.
It was cold in the morning and warm in the afternoon. Air temperature was between 34° F and 68° F and water temperature was between 40° F and 52° F. It was a very windy week, which is unusual for this time of the season. On Thursday the wind raged up to 70 mph.
Rods, lines and tips: 6 to 9 weight Spey rods. Skagit and Scandi Heads with T-11, T-14 and T-17 in different lengths. MOW tips are a very good choice to use with the Skagit head. For the Scandi lines Poly-leaders or Versi-leaders worked well. With this low water single handed rods work well in some pools and runs.
Flies: Nymphs like EMB, Aurelia Prince, Red Butt, Tdf Prince, Prince Nymph, chartreuse and green Scudds. Green Machine, Titanic, Black and olive Wooly Buggers, Yuk Bug. Tube flies like Sunray Shadow, Monkey. Big leeches and intruders did the job in the last hour of fishing.
