CDC Ant extended body

In the book “Magie in CDC”, my first book about CDC, I proposed a ant fly pattern that is tied with a single CDC hackle.
I created the ant following the tying process with whom I had tied an ant hairs of deer in the early eighties.
I stared at a tuft of hair on the curve of a hook, I arranged View more...

Steps

Step 1

Fix a CDC hackle on the curve of a hook grub.

Step 2

On this hackle, I fix a second of equal size. When I created this montage, I stared at both hackles on the bend of the hook, but when I realized that the extended body resulted inelastic, decided to fix the first hackles on the shank of the hook and the second on the stem of the first.

Step 3

Taking strained the two hackles, I wrap around them the tying thread. When I reach the length that I intend to give the extended body, going back until I get on the hook.

Step 4

I cut the quill of the hackle.

Step 5

Keeping strained the hackle fixed on the hook, I wrap the other around it.

Step 6

Arrived on the hook, I fix the hackle and cut the excess.

Step 7

Holding tense the hackle for tip, I shift fibers forward and fix them on the bend of the hook.

Step 8

Reverse the tip of the hackle on the extended body , fix it on the hook, and, if the hackle is short, cut the excess .

Step 9

If instead, as in this case, the hackle is long enough, I wrap it around the hook. I fix it next the hook eye and cut the excess.

Step 10

I shift forward fibers that exceed the extended body and fix them next eye, so I get the chest of the ant.

Step 11

I raise fibers exceeding the chest and blocking by running the ant's head.

Step 12

I remove the fly off the vise, cutting the fibers that come out from the abdomen and determine the length of the wings with a cut.
