Puma Fishing Ltda is located in the beautiful fjord area of the Chilean Patagonia. We have two basic operations: PUMA II, a 60 ft mothership in 28 mile long lake Yelcho (handles 6 anglers in 3 staterooms, each with their own bathroom and shower, 3 skiffs, and a crew of 5). From this base we efficiently and comfortably fish the bays and some of the 7 rivers that flow into the lake including the Futaleufu- This lake has been described by many anglers to be one of the finest trout lakes on the planet, especially dry fly fishing. Our second base is Puma Lodge, located midway between the lake and the Pacific Ocean on the Yelcho river. From these bases we fish various rivers, lakes and the ocean. With this diversity it is very rare that one gets "shut out" by weather and an angler's fly fishin

Puma Lodge is located adjacent to the southern entrance to Pumalin Park, created by Doug Tompkins, and considered one of the finest eco parks in South America, if not the world. We offer guided trips to the well groomed trails in the park to amazing waterfalls, giant alerce trees, the magnificent Michinmahuida glacier, and the active (but quiet) Chaiten glacier. We also have guided treks to the beautiful Yelcho glacier as non fishing activities.

The unique characteristics of our operation are the quality View more... of the trout in the lake 2-8 lb with many over 10 lb. and some real monsters over 20 lb. -- and weather permitting this is dry fly fishing. This is not your usual lake fishing as 10 - 20 fish/day/angler is common; We do not have the numbers that they have in Alaska but we sure do have the size. The river fishing is usually 25-50 trout/day/ angler with some real monsters in the river, especially Browns. The exploration into the ocean is new but the results for the first season speak for themselves and one is expected to hook up with a number of each species on the trip to the ocean. Much of this fishing is done from a boat so it is ideal for those anglers that can no longer wade or prefer not to wade. The final characteristic that makes us stand out (besides the mother ship) is the diversity of fishing that we fortunately have so that even the weather rarely stops you from enjoying our beautiful, lakes, forests, waterfalls, rivers, majestic mountains, glaciers, fjords, and volcanoes.
PUMA II: handles 6 anglers in 3 staterooms, each with their own bathroom & shower, salon, dining area, and kitchen. The accompanying skiffs are customized with casting platforms fore & aft.
Puma Lodge: has two private cabanas, each with their own bathrooms and showers as well as fireplaces. In the main lodge besides the kitchen and guide quarters there is a spacious dining room, living room with larger fireplace, small fly & fishing supply shop, fly tying area, and library. The two suites in the main lodge have their own bathrooms and showers. There is a hot tub on the front deck for relaxing after a day of fishing. The lodge is supported by two green houses, chicken raising facility, and maintenance building. We run on generators. There is no telephone, TV, nor WiFi, which i View more...s very appreciated by our guests as they can fully enjoy their stay and solitude while concentrating on their fishing, or trekking, bird watching, or just curling up with a good book.
We fly in fresh sea food with each group and do have asados (barbecues) during clients stay. The food, prepared by our chef that has worked for Puma fishing for over 25 years has been rated by our clients to be excellent-superb.
The boats used in the river and ocean are heavily customized with the angler in mind. The guides receive (well deserved) marks as they should because they have fished these waters all their lives and have worked for PF for several years.
Puma Fishing has been in operation since the late 70"s , and Puma I was one of the very first fly fishing operations in the Yelcho watershed..
