In the northwest of the province of Tierra del Fuego, about 60 km southwest of the city of Río Grande, “Scikentapen Lodge” is located within the lands of Estancia Laura. The lodge was founded in 2023, using a remodeled ranch house that was built in the 1930s. A privileged place, immersed in the southernmost Patagonia of Argentina, surrounded by rolling foothills with native - Ñire and Lenga – trees, mountains, and valleys created by the course of the Menendez River and the Ona River.
The remote environment where we do our fishing is mainly composed of the Menendez River and a few steppe streams without trees on their banks. View more...ally clear, greenish in tone. Fishing is very technical, since the river has very short and very deep pools where the trout seeks to pause, without wasting energy. This normally forces us to use short and sinking lines to be able to present our flies in the place where the fish are.
To get to the Lodge we have only a short a trip from Rio Grande, of one hour and fifteen minutes on a gravel road that is not difficult to navigate. It is a very beautiful trip through different landscapes and Estancias (ranches) of our island.
Our guide, experienced in the technique of fly fishing and knowledgeable about the waters, drives between mountains, green meadows, peat bogs and lenga forests to some of these famous areas where we enjoy the activity, being part of captivating natural settings. Al Noroeste de la provincia de Tierra del Fuego, a unos 60 km al Sudoeste de la ciudad de Río Grande “Wuijoor Lodge”, dentro de las tierras de Estancia Laura, fundada desde el año 2023, utilizando una casa remodelada que fue construida en los años 1930. Un lugar privilegiado inmerso en la Patagonia más Austral de la Argentina, envuelto de montes de Ñires y Lengas, montañas y valles creados por el cause del río Menendez y el río Ona.
El ambiente natural donde hacemos nuestra pesca está compuesto principalmente por el Río Menendez y algunos arroyos de estepa sin árboles en sus orillas. Este río alberga una gran población de truchas Marrones y Arcoiris hasta 2 kg y las famosas truchas anádromas Sea Run Brown Trout de hasta 12kg. El agua del río es clara, de tono verdoso. La pesca es muy técnica por, ya que el río posee posos muy cortos y de gran profundidad donde la trucha busca estar sin gastar energías, esto nos obliga normalmente a usar líneas cortas y hundimiento para poder presentar nuestras moscas en el lugar donde está el pez.
Para llegar al Lodge tenemos tan solo un viaje de una hora y quince minutos sobre una ruta de ripio que no presenta dificultar para transitarla, es un viaje muy bonito por diferentes paisajes y Estancias de nuestra Isla.
Nuestros guías experimentado en la técnica de Fly fishing y conocedor de las aguas, conduce entre montañas, praderas verdes, turbales y bosques de lengas hasta algunos de estos famosos ámbitos donde disfrutamos de la actividad, siendo parte de cautivantes escenarios naturales. Given its characteristics, “Wuijoor Lodge” offers a variety of fishing situations like very few places can. By housing resident and migratory trout, it allows us to use different equipment and techniques to make catches - from fishing streamers with sinking lines, to fishing with Spanish line or European nymph.
The Menendez River also generates challenges and different situations for us every week since it can be quite variable in its flow and tone of water. When the rains are present, this forces us to put our cunning into play and try different alternatives to connect with these big fish.
Our days begin at 7:00am, with breakfast served and at approximately 7:30am, the guides have everything ready to leave for the river. At 1:00pm, we return to the Lodge where our chef and service tea View more...m are waiting for us with lunch. At 4:00pm, after a comfortable and restorative nap, we don our waders again and head out to the river until 9:00 or 9:30pm depending on the sunset, to finally return to the Lodge for a well-deserved dinner and rest.
The necessary equipment is a 6wt, 8wt or a Switch rod, although due to the river’s characteristics it does not require very long casts. Using one-handed rods with Spey techniques or Spey cast lines adapted to a one-handed rod is one of the best options, but even still, the river and geography challenges even the most experienced angler.
The fishing intensity is very good. The spectacular anadromous trout "Sea Run Brown Trout" of surprising size and an iridescent brown color that astonishes any lover of fly fishing, can be found from the fourth week of February until the last day of the season, April 15th. The most surprising and gratifying, is the strength and fight that it gives, resulting in the fish sometimes achieving victory.
Dadas sus características “Wuijoor Lodge” ofrece una variedad de situaciones de pesca como muy pocos lugares pueden hacerlo. Al albergar truchas residentes y migratorias, nos posibilita la utilización de diferentes equipos y técnicas para realizar las capturas, desde pesca con strimers con líneas de hundimiento hasta pesca con hilo español o ninfa europea.
El Río Menendez también nos genera desafíos y diferentes situaciones todas las semanas ya que es bastante cambiante en su caudal y tono de agua, cuando se hacen presentes las lluvias, eso nos obliga a poner en juego nuestra astucia y probar diferentes alternativas para lograr conectar con ese gran pez.
Los días de pesca se inician a las 7 AM con el desayuno y aproximadamente a las 7:30 AM los guías ya tienen todo listo para salir hacia el río, a la1 PM regresamos al Lodge donde nuestro chef y equipo de servicio nos esperan para el almuerzo. A las 4 PM luego de una confortable y reparadora siesta, nos volvemos a colocar los wader y salimos hacia el río hasta las 9 0 9:30 PM dependiendo de la hora del atardecer, para por fin regresar al Lodge para la merecida cena y descanso.
Los equipos necesarios son de un número 6, 8 0 una caña Swich, aunque por sus características no requiere lances demasiado largos. Claramente utilizar cañas de una mano con técnicas de Spey o bien líneas de Spey cast adaptadas a caña de una mano es una de las mejores opciones, pero de no ser así, el río y geografía desafía hasta al más experimentado pescador.
La intensidad de pesca es muy buena. Desde la cuarta semana de febrero hasta el último 15 de Abril, ya se encuentra en el río las espectaculares truchas anádromas “Sea Run Brown Trout de tamaños sorprendentes y de un color marrón tornasol que asombra a cualquier amante de la pesca con mosca, pero lo más sorprendente es la fuerza y la pelea que entrega, dando lugar a que el pez en ocasiones logre la victoria

Dining at Skikentapen Lodge is first-class. Each day, we will surprise you with the chef's creations, with abundant and delicious dishes, combining products from our sea and Argentine countryside, always accompanied by delicious, selected wines. Breakfast is continental or American - very good to start the day with good energy, we are going to need it!
The dinners are very special, where there is no shortage of good after-dinner whiskeys, good company and good stories shared at the end of the day.
El Lodge View more... cuenta con una capacidad para albergar hasta un máximo de 6 pescadores. El Lodge posee habitaciones Suite Premium son dobles y cuentan con baño en suite, con una excelente vista al valle de la estancia. Wuijoor Lodge, posee todo lo necesario para un buen descanso luego de extensas jornadas de pesca.
La gastronomía de primer nivel. Todos los días los sorprenderemos con las creaciones del chef, con platos abundantes y deliciosos, combinando productos de nuestro mar y campo argentino, siempre acompañado de muy ricos vinos seleccionados. El desayuno es del tipo continental o americano, muy bueno para comenzar el día con buena energía, ¡la vamos a necesitar!
Las cenas son muy especiales, donde no faltan los buenos whiskys de sobremesa al final del día, con alguna buena historia.
